When we’re pressed for time with a million other things to do, we can’t always spend hours at the gym.  What we need is something super efficient - exercises that burn the largest number of calories in the least amount of time.

5 Exercises that burn 200 calories in 30 minutes or less

  1. Spinning – generally done in a group with an instructor.  You are on a stationary bike, pedaling constantly and at varying speeds and levels of resistance.  Push yourself here for 30 minutes and you’ll very easily surpass the 200 calorie mark.

  3. Jumping Rope – There’s a reason you see the boxers doing this.  It is amazing exercise and it is fun.  30 minutes seem long?  Why not make it a group activity – get some friends to join in for some extra motivation.

  5. Elliptical Machine – This is a ‘low-impact’ calorie-burning superpower! It works both your upper and lower body muscles and of course gets the heart rate up.  Set the machine to “interval training” to get the biggest bang for your buck.

  7. Step Aerobics – This is like a high intensity dance routine led by an instructor.  It involves you stepping on and off of a step stool to the rhythm of the music.  You can crank up the intensity by lifting your feet higher when stepping onto the platform. In other words – get those knees up!

  9. Swimming – This one often flies under the radar, usually because you don’t notice yourself sweating.  Swimming in place (treading water) is the best way to burn calories in the water – especially if you use a variety of arm and leg movements in the process.
